1. This memorandum contains a recommendation submitted for
approval of the Project Director. Such recommendation is set
forth in Paragraph 4.
2, Letter Contract No. BE-2022 and Amendment No. 1 thereto
provide for studies and investigations of the probable effects
of changes of certain variables on the operation of special
systems for producing electromagnetic radiation, Amendment No.
2 to the letter contract has been drawn to extend the date for
definitising the letter contract. In lieu of fixing an extended
definitization date, the contract has been amended at the request
of the Contractor to include the following stipulation which
automatically extends said date and provides for termination of
the letter contract upon thirty days notice by either party after
15 August 195'7.
In the event the definitive contract is not
executed by the aforesaid date, this Letter
Contract shall be automatically extended, except
that either party shall have the right to terminate
in accordance with ASPR 7-203.10 upon the giving of
thirty (30) days notice to the other party.e
Since the Westinghouse Electric Corporation is a reputable Con-
tractor and has shown considerable interest in the project, the
termination provision is considered as a eontractu precaution
which very unlikely would be exercised by the Contractor.
3. Amendment No. 2 does not oblig A any-additional-funds
under Utter con rant.
4. Concurrences in the issuance and execution of Amendment
