On 2 and 3 March 1951, about 30 single-engine, ground attack aircraft were parked in front of the closed hangers at Schoonwalde (N 53/Z 66) airfield. (1) There was no flying between 4 and 5 p.m. on 2 March. A biplane made local flights between 11 a.m. and noon on 3 March in clear weather. The biplane towed a sleeve target. Aiming was practiced with three 'A guns, each manned by five men, but no shot.- were fired. Another biplane and a single-engine high-wing monoplane also made local fli:hts. A one-digit white nember was the only narking observed on the rud- der assembly of the high-wing monoplane. At 1 p.m. on 3 Larch, biplanes were observed making local flights. 3inele-engine ground attack aircraft were aloft throughout the day. Some of them practiced formation flying in squadron forma- tion approaching the field from the southwest. 2. The radio truck with the directional aerial Was not set up. (2) The radio instal- lation with four masts was still at its previous location. The diagonal distance between the masts was the same as the height of the masts, whereas the distance between two nasts located side-by-side seemed to be less than their height. The wooden hut in the riddle of the square ha(' a flat, sloping roof. It was almost one third as hi h as the masts. An insulator was fitted at the top and the middle of each mast. The radio installation was surrounded by a lattice fence and it coeld not be determined whether e third insulator was fitted at the lower section of the masts. (3) 3. Air force motor vehicies seen entering and leaving the field 50X1-HUM eomnerts. 50X1-HUM (1) rhe-7-E9rbener end tepe of aircraft observed indicates that the airfield is still occupied by one ground attack regiment. It is believed that an air reconnaissance regiment, equipped with T.-2s and Pe-2s? is also stationed at the Schoenwalde airfield. (2) The installation was a racer set Of the RU3-2 type. 1(3) The radio installation is probably an Adcock DF. 50X1-HUM Document No. P:o Li 1c. ruth E; 1C;; Eat*: 1>21.__ - oryt r1.7? r,ro T T a (-IT 50X1-HUM Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2013/11/25: CIA-RDP82-00457R007500010007-8 50X1
