Fort of Odessa

la lead destroyer [supercaccia] of 2,500-3,000
tons displacement, the features of which are indicated in the following
diagram:

It was a very up-to-date vessel
with a raked bow and slightly narrowed cruiser spoon stern [to Judge
from diagram]. It was armed with two twin mounts forward and two aft;
about 150 millimeters caliber, two antiaircraft machine gun mounts forward
of the bridge and forward of the after, mounts, twin and probably triplet
torpedo tube mounts, the first abaft the forward funnel and the second
abaft the after funnel; independent fire control station on counterdeck
in tower between the torpedo tube and after machine gun tower; radar on
forward tripod. The two masts were of openwork construction. Located
on the extreme stern were depth-bomb launchers. The freeboard of the
ship was very low (less than two meters). The approximate length of
the vessel was 110-120 meters; very broad amidships.

The vessel arrived in Odessa in the first hour of the afternoon of
the day
It remained anchored in the roadstead a short distance from the former
"Colombo," with steam up (four boilers) and evidently awaiting sunset
to begin firing exercises.

heading for the line between Odessa and Zmenyy Island. The target was
composed of five metal elements with metal supports about ten meters
high, which supported a screen, also metallic. The floats were streamlined
in shape and were probably cylindrical.

an estimated speed of 700-800 kilometers per hour and headed southeast
by northwest. The jet exhausts were located on the wings approximately
a third of the way from the fuselage.

an operation of amphibious parachutists bailing out into the sea at an
altitude of approximately 1,000 meters from a slow-moving aircraft. There
were nine parachutists with white parachutes, who were then immediately
picked up southeast of the curvilineal breakwater by motorboats which
left the harbor for that purpose. Berthed at the silo quay of Quarantine
Harbor was an 8,000-10,000-ton Russian tanker unloading grain.
Russia, during the first months of this year,
had realized its program for the application of nuclear energy for
industrial purposes.
The mouth of the Danube in the Sulina region is mined.
