During October, 73% of FDD translation
service completed was for OIS (6957 pages),
whereas only 10% (1089 pages) was done
for ORR whose requested 5962 pages not
yet done represents 42% of the FDD backlog.
This striking difference in the amount
of work for OIS and ORR is tempered by:
(1) The difference in priorities assigned
by requestors themselves to DD/P type
crash operational needs versus ORR needs'
for basic research materials.

OPERATIONS
1. The 36th, 37th, and 38th meetings of the Subcommittee on
Exploitation of Foreign Language Publications were held 1, 22, and
29 October, respectively. The Bear East, South Asia, and Africa
programs were concurred in, rovidi for monthly information reports
on (1) Arab States and Iran; (3) India,
Pakistan, and Afghanistan; and (4) Africa.
It was agreed that 12 of the FDD scheduled reports initiated
as a result of Subcommittee agreements would be printed on one side
only to facilitate fill of items. Discussion was continued on the
Western Europe, and Latin America programs.
2. The Linguist Service received 416 visitors during the month
and screened 3916 pages.
Reference to the CTS Index prevented 20 cases of duplication
totaling 600 pages.
