MEMORANDUM FOR: Executive Director-Comptroller
SUBJECT : A History of the Bay of Pigs
1. In the CIA Historical Staff, Semiannual Report,
July-December 1971, the Bay of Pigs episode is mentioned
as a major action of CIA which should be given historical
treatment in the ongoing program of the Agency.
2. I wish now to urge that work be started on such
a history, broadly planned and executed and based on full
documentation, as an all-Agency history, directly under
the Historical Staff, and that David McLean be named to
