Polyethylene terephthalote was used to observe the
uniaxial defurvastion al film In the glassy condition and
of cryx:&Mne (Ilms. It was shown that the fcar. ation 0i
the so-called "neck" wbdch can take place in "cold
stretching" of crystalline and In forced-elastic defor-
mation of amcephous polymers in governed not by
phase chanpe but has a purely relaxation character.
The results obtained can be Interpreted on the basis of
the assumption of a "packet" smucture of the crystal-
line and the amorphous polymers developed by Kargin.
