Rational fineness ratios for the ... S/535/61/000/138/003/008

of the empennage, are constant for all take-off weights. An
equation for determining a rational fineness ratio is obtained by
differentiating the product of the cargo weight and cruising speed
of the aircraft, depending on fuselage, undercarriage, nacelle and
wing drags Equations for the parameters occurring in the equation
as functions of the fineness ratio are also quoted. Ln conclusion,
it is stated that the aerodynamics of the fuselage have, in
general, little effect on a rational fineness ratio, which is
mainly governed by the weight of the fuselage and tail unit-. these
details may be used to approximately determine the rational fine-
ness ratio. Calculations show that the weight and dimensions of
the tailplane, and total aerodynamic drag, lead to an increase in
the rational finenes& ratio of the fuselage, It is deduced that
the rational fineness eatio of an airliner of more than 25-30 tons
weight has to be not less than ten,

ABSTRACT: Thelauthors propose a method for deterq~ning the magnifica-:ion factor in
-take-of.L weigh~Wimilar to that used for Me weight of engines and powe-
plants. The load G, of the aircraft which made up of equipment, cargo, crew,
passengers, etc. is assumed to be constant and independent of the tak(loff weight G'0.
The problem studied in this paper consists of finding the coefficient X of incre-ase-
in the takeoff weight when the load is increased by an amount AG1. This co-cfficient
is equal to AGO/&G1. The methods of dimensional analysis are used for solving the
problem assuming geometrical similarity of the aircraft and AG140. Curves are given

ABSTRACT: AV-h non-oxidative flux is recommended foi improving the impact ductility
of automatically welded joints in high-strength grade of steel. This flux has the
following composition (in %): Si02--5; A1203--7; KC1--10; NaF-5; (K20-~Na,20)--3;
CaFz-70. The properties of welded joints in 25KhSNVFA steel using 20KhSNVFA electrode
vire and AV-4 flux were compared with those of Joints made under ident_~cal conditions
using AN-348A (42% S102 and.36% mno) and AN-15 (26% Si02 and 2.5% MnO). Chemical
analysis of the resultant joints shows that the oxidative capacity. of the flux increasei-
with the concentration of silicon and manganese oxides. The concentration of all
a,lloying elements in joints made with AV-4 flux is elose to the initiaL composition
and the reduced oVgen concentration increases the impact ductility of the joints. L

Thepe joints are less sensitive to impact loads at normal and low temperatures and are
less liable to develop cracks which increases their operational reliability. An en-
tirely new flux, AV-5, has also been developed on the basis of AV-h flux and has better
iechnological properties from the standpoint of senm formation. This new flux is de-
pigned for welding parts from VP-25 and SP-28 stee,*.s. Orig. art. has: 3 figures, 2

ABSTRAM Acc;rt=&ng to existing instructio=91, the tempe3-ature- drop
of ammonia to air of 10 C is at present arbitrar:Uy adopted
by Soviet Aesigrers of refrigerated chambers W. The
roblem of the cor=ect choice o'f this temperatuxe drop has
een dealt with by several authcirs and also in xecent work
?
of Vikholev G. (j) and Tkachev A'. (8). However, these
authors did not take into consideration a _mumbex of factors
and assumptions which have been taken into account in the
work described :1,.n this paper'. First the author considers
the influence of the temperature drop on the first costs
determined from the design and operation indices of the
refrigerating machinery, the heat exchange conditions in
C"d 1/3 the refrigerateA chambers and a.1so the cost of the-equip-
ment. The costs are considered of the followlzZ equipment:

condensers, the machinery building, the initial ammonia
charge. Main attention is devoted to calculation of the
compressor performance? the calculations being carried out

for cooling vapours flowing from the low pressure stage.
On the basis of his calculationst he recommends a tempera-
ture drop between the cooling medium and the air of 7 to
9 C as the optfimm; 8 C satisfies fully the requirements
of reftigeratioa technology andenables the. mse of simple
equipment but the optimum conditions can only be ensured
by providing aixtomatic control of the air temperature of
the cooling chambei. According, to the obtained results,, it
is advisable to use-for chambers intended for storing Prozen
goods9 single stage compressors in combination with booster
compressors for the freezing chambers and for individual
chambers, particularly those intended for conserving high
Card 2/3 fat content fish and fowl'. The use of Freon-22 or Freon-
115 has many potentialities since it permits the use of
single stage machines without xequiring boos-ter compressors.

(dimensionless groups) which churacterize the similarity of the thermal
