In the reporbed work -an attempt is made- to determine the change of the acoustical properties ot blood (velocity v and 'coefficient of absorption) in cancer diseases. There was studied a newly.prepared serum, ob- tained by centrifugation of blood at a temperature of 40C during 20 min. at. 200 revolutions/min. The volume of the sUdied substance was 10 cm~. The meas- urements were carried out by a phase-pulse method, the measurement accuracy of v was 0.3%,the frequency - 5.45 Mels. There was studied blood of the group A(II) Card 1/2 S/058/63/000/001/110/120 Experimental study of ... A06P/A1O1 of a donor and of a patient having stomach cancer with no revealed metastases. With a view to get a precise definitiaa of the character of the disease, blood serums were additionally studied after X-ray irradiation by a dose of 50,000 roentgen. It was found that In all cases in,the 20 - 820C temperature *range v increases linearly with the tomperature Ancrease, the rate of increase falling after 420C, which is related. to the change of the albuminous blood structures. .In the donorts blood serumS Is laTRer -then in the blood serum of the 'sick. At 280C the velocity dif f ere-nce avi - 10 v/sec. for a non-irradiated serum, and Lv2 = 14 m/sec. for an ItTaalatea. serms. At 700C Avi - - 20 m/sec and ~ &2 - - 18 m/sec. The donor's bloa serum has a temperature coefficient greater.by 0.4 m1sec. degree for the non-irradiated serum and by 0.2 mlaeo. degree for the irradiated one. The temperature of thIckening T, of the donor's blood serum is higher than that of the patient T 2- For a non-irradiated serum Tl-- 82DC, T2 = 720C; for an irradiated serum T, = 720C, T2 = 680C. A conclusion is made on the possibility of diagnosing variais diseases, particularly cancer de'seases, by the method of ultrasonic studies of albuminous.systems. There are 11 ref- erences. 1. In the present paper are analyze& I the errors occurring in measurements of the absorption coefficient !of the first harmonic. -For this purpose, a pulsed method with a ituned receiver is used to measure at different frequencies (6.0--10.6' jMc/sec) the dependende of this coefficient on the radiator voltage amplitude (up to -200 V); such meai3urements were made in distilled water, ethyl alcohol,,,toluol, and benzene. The experimental results i jare-in good agreement"with the cali."ulations of Keck and Beyer (RZh- Fiz; 1960, No. 12, 33880); these calculations are used to determine the maximum amplitude at-which absorption can be'measured. The speed measurement was based on the re- lative displacement of the first half-vave on the oscilloscope screen for two samples made of the same material but having different lengths. In determining the absorptioni the amplitudes of the first half-wave vere compared after passage through samples of different lengths of the given material. The method of multiple reflections was also 'used. A schematic diagram of the measuring chanfber is presented. 7he entire system was iranersed in a Dewar vessel filled with a liquid which did not react with the in- vestigated polymer. To obtain low temperatures, refrigerating apparatus was used in t Card 1/2 L 32991-66 ACC NRi ;,R6o16271 conjunction with an ultrathermostat of the "Vobzer" type (accuracy 0.05C). Curves showing the dependence of a, and of the ultrasound velocity on the temperature at 830 and 980 kcs and at 2 14cs were obtained.. The temperature at which the temperature co- efficients of the velocity change, exhibit no reciprocal proportionality to the tem- perature within the limits of experimental nccuracy (1~) in the interval 800 kcs - 2 4- 1 10 Mes. The ul-Grasound speed In rubber decreases rapidly in the interva -40,_ c, while the absorption in the region -30 - 20C passes through a maximum (transition from the highly-elastic into the glasa-like state). At higher frequencies, the absorption maximum shifts toward lower temperatures. 1. rfikolayeva. A schematic of the experimental installation is pre- i obtained with a frequency of 700-1000 kilo cles and pu,,vv u~..cnditure of 2-4 w/cm2. The experimental results are tabulated (see Table 1). The use of common organic solvents as the working liquid was quite satisfactory and in some cases,,when the level of natural oils on the surface of the wires was relatively low,-ordinary tap water could be used as the working liquid.
