cadavers: normlly (63.557. ot cases studied) hepatic artery crosses
ventral aspect of portal vein, but portal vein may be betwecn tw()
hepatic arteries (12.9%); the artery may cross behind the vein (3.11%)
or fall to cross vein proper, crossing only its branches or roots (I
case, I.e. 0.44%.) Anatomical details with discussion of surgical

TEXT: A torsion calculation method Is suggested for a stralghtsquare rod
with a pierced round center hole used in oil well drilling. The method applies
also for other studat-1 rods with six or eight faces. The ~crslon problem for the
solid square rod had been solved long ago by Sen-Venan who developed in appr-lxlrAtp.
analytical method. 7-1he problem of the hollow rod Is solved by the author graphi-
cally, starting with construction of a solid square rod. A surface presenting the
st'ress function I (F) for one quar+er of the cross section Is sufficlent in view
of the symmietry. 7he geometr1cal characteriatIc (Jn,) of the cross ae:tlon is de-
termined, equal to a double volume of the stress function hill constructed over
