N. ervuninal Re I*; svievc TITLE: Radioactive fallout on the territory of SSSR in 1963 SOURCE: Atomnaya energiya-9v. 19, no. 1. 1965, 28-35 TOPIC TAGG: radioactive fallout, radio strontium, cerium, praseodymium, radio- active decay, radioactive cont dilation, soil behavior ABSTRACT: The article --:,ontains summary data on the radioactive fission-product fallout and its content in the soil of SSSR during 1963- The fallout was gathered on standard gauze sheets of 0-3 m2 area for 24 hours, distributed in 10--20 points in each administrative region, oblast, or republic. The ashes resulting from com- bustion of these sheets were analyzed radiochemically and by y spectroscopy. The Ce144 1 Ce141 , and Zr9s was determined by 7 spectrometry with an NaI(Tl) crystal and a pulse-height anal~yzer. The Sr9O was separated radiochemically. Tables are presented, showing the intensity of the radioactive fallout by quarters as a func- tion of the geographic latitudep and averaged aver the 888H territory, and the density of Br90 fallout in BSSR soil compared with otber regions of the northern Card 1/2 L 6477-66 ACCESSION M.- AP5019805 hemisphere in 1959, 1962.' and 1963. TAtitude distribution of the content of vari- ous isotopes in the SSSR soil and the ratio of Ce 144 + pr144 and Sr9O to the total content of fallout in soil are also tabulated. Plots showing the decrease in radio- activity taking place in 1962--19" are included. The contributions of the various nuclear test explosions to the fallout are estimated. It is concluded that unless new tests are made the average SeO content in the WSE soil will be 60--70 microcurie/ImP. Orig. sat, has: 4 figures and 5 tables. A., Candidate of Technical Scien,-_!ea TITLEs On the Accuracy of Determining and Maintaining the Equality of Focal Lengths of Projection Cameras of Universal Stereo~p Instruments ~D PERIODICALt Geodeziya i kartografiya, 1960, No. 5, pp. 27-32 TEXT: First, the accuracy of determining the focal length was investigated, and it is shown that the latter depends on the tolerable error of the determination of the point coordinates of the terrain-model. When evaluat- ing aerophotographs of mountain regions the demands for the accuracy of the determination of the camera's focal length are increased accordin Y. gl Secondly, the accuracy of maintaining the equality of the focal lengths of cameras is investigated. It is found by relations following from Fig. 1. Formula (9) is derived. It characterizes the distortion of elevation differences caused by an inequality of the focal length of instrumental cameras. Then formula (11) is derived. It shows that the most outward pair of stereoscopic pictures with the largest abscissas and ordinates Card 1/3 On the Accuracy of Datr.~.rmining and Maintaining S100616010001r;.;i, the Equality of Focal Lengths of Projection B000123 Cameras of Universal Stereo Instruments has the largest errors. Of the elements of mutual orientation only onc element V will be distorted by not maintainin the equality of the focal length. The vertical parallaxes thus created fdue to the difference in fo cal length) can be eliminated by introducing the quantity dbz. It is shown that the dependency of the vertical parallax-distortions on the focal length inequality has a linear character. For the error of determining the focal length of the camera, formula (24) is derived. Based on it the toleranys for the accuracy of maintainin the focal length equality on VC various\stereoRho+A&ra-mA+-4^ instrumentelAlre calculated (Table). The til" of the model created by the introduction of db, has ihe same character as the bz-tilt. Thus the errors (of the elevation differences) created by th-. introduction of dbz are removed by the geodetic orientation of the single pair of stereoscopic pictures. In such a way, while evaluating the singl- picture pairs, the tolerances of maintaining the equality of the focal lengths are decreased. The tolerable inclination angle of the model (and therefore the error of determining the focal length of the camera, too) will depend In this case on the necessary accuracy of the determination the x, y coordinates. Finally, it is shown that for the evaluation of tht, Card 2/3 On tho Accuracy of Determining and Maintaining S/006/60/000/05/07/024 the Equality of Focal Lengths of Projection B007/BI23 Cameras of Universal Stereo Instruments pair of stereoscopic pictures according to the method of setting an point?. of control, the demands discussed in this paper and shown in the Table mentioned above, must be set up for the focal length equality of cameras. Moscow, Metallurgizdat, 1962, 116-123 TEXT: This work was undertaken because the properties of the fluoride complexes of Ti and Nb and their solubilities in various mineral acids are of importance in the development of separation processes. It is shown that the optimum.conditions for the separation of Ti and .14b from H2SO4 sol-ution are: 10% H2SO4, 19-a FIF and 1070' KC1. From a study of the interaction of potassium salts with Te and Nb in H2SO4 a method is developed for separating .these elements from medium and strong acid solutions. This separation depends on the principal valency change in Ti. When a potassium salt is introduced in H2SO4 solution containing Ti (180 to 250 g/litre 112SOO the double sulphate of Ti and K is Card 1/2 3/200/62/000/004/002/002 D204/D307 A'UTHO"'~S: Damburov, V.G., Demenev, N.V., and Polyakova, V.?,',. rn Ir T 1.1 m TiF - KF - H 0 .&..L T.U-: Investi.ation of the ternary systei 4 2 FE-RIODICAL: Akademiya nauk SSSR.
