the Intercity network. Recentlyp simplified
equipment for semiautomatic communicatic,r-ti developed for
oblast'networks and is now being introdu(i,~d. This equipment
provides for the organization of semiautcnatlic communicat*ion from
the rayon center to the oblast center, with manual communication
on the saxqe channel in the reverse dire~*tlcn. The same equipment
may be used for d-c or a-c transmission n-f dialing pulses, using
the KE-8 equipment for transmission of frequency signals of the
control channel, the SMT-34 equipment for t.minsmission of the
carrier frequency, etc. The following contributed to
the development of the system and its equipment: S.A. Vasillyev,
M.M. Vitanuzell, B.N. Voznesenekiy, I.Ye. Golubtsov, M.B. 02~anat,

Title : Notes. Variation of flux of seismic energy with epicentral
distance
Periodical : Izv. AN SSSR, Ser. geofiz., Sep-Oct 1955, 462-463
Abstract : In an unbounded homogeneous space the flux of enerey of
elastic waves decreases in proportion to the square of the
distance from the source: E211jr2 (in consequence of the
increase of the surface of the wave front). In the half-
space close to the surface the energy flux must decrease
more rapidly, since with incidence of the waves upon the
boundary there arise surface waves and energy of bulk waves
in part passes over into energy of surface waves. An shown
by H. Lamb ("propagation of tremors~over surface of elastic
solid," Phil. Trans. Roy. Soc., London, 203, l9o4), in the
case of a concentrated surface source the energy flux of the
bulk waves propagated along the boundary decrease in propor-
,4
tion to the fourth power of the distance: E_* 1/r

Abstract The authors obtained certain empirical data on the character
