TOPIC TAGS: metal tube, metal pressing, metal preset metal forming
ABSTRACT: A method for the manufacture of finned steel pipes (for the cliemioal
industry) by using horizontal hydraulic presses was developed at the Southern Pipe
Plant Nlikopoll (Nikopollskiy yuzhnotrubriyy zavod). The experimental work was based
on theoreti-cal-calculations published earlier by V. K. Verkhovodt' A. Ye. Pritomanov,
and M. I. Chepurko (Issledovaniye protsensa istocheniya motalla pri preasovanii
profillnykh trub, Sb.Proizvodetvo trubt vyp. 14, Izd. Motallurgiya, 1964). The
compression stress wan calculated after S. I. Borisov and A. Te. Pritomanov
(Analitecheakiy metod opredeleniya usiliya pressovanii otallnykh trubp Sb.

theoretically calculated compression stresses were in good agreement with the experi-
mental data. A schematic of the construction and calibration of the dies is presented
(see Fig. 1). A recent order for 46 x 4 mm (with 105-mm fin diameter) pipes has been
successfully completed. V. B. Noskoq A. I. Lysenko 0. P. Drobiclip A. It -

ABSTRACT: In view of previous findings that the growth of Vicia faba Is significantly de-
layed In areas Yrith large deposits of uranium or radium, similar experintients were carried
out over a 2-year period with spring wheat and spring barley grown in experimental plots
under the influence of gamma radiation from U and Ra ore (radiation doso of 0. 005 - 0. 1
r/day). The height, Internodes, dry weight, number of heads, and num6?r of grains per
head were measured In both experimental and control plots. Although radiation had no

significant effect on germination rate of either wheat or barley, it produced a marked delay
in heading and tillering and thus significantly decreased the biological productivity of the
crops. The authors are deeply grateful to the members of the Radiophysics Group, Depart-

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to investilgate the behavior of the intrinsic
absorption edge of BaT103 in the transition from the fazz lectrLc (tetragonal) to the
paraelectric (cubic) phase. rive specimens of BaT103 single crystals (Curie point 0 a'
1050C, forbidden band width 9 = 3.2 ev at room temperature) were Investigated on a.,
Sf-4A spectrophotometer. It was fiound that In the ferroelectric and In the paraelec-~
tric phases there exists a linear relationship between the width of the forbidden bani
9 and the temperature with an equal coefficient, namely V

Hear 1050C there is a phase shift, accompanied by an anomalous decrease of the width-
of the forbidden bapd. A temperature hysteresis with a width of the hysteresis lo*p of
1%,20C was also observed. It appears that the change of the width of the forbidden baA:
is related to the behavior of the heat capacity of BaT103 in the phase transition
band. The authors thank Dr. Arend who made the BM03 crystals available for the ex.W-N;-
