It was found that the specific impact strength decreases considerably with increasing molding temperature, owing to the Increased partial destruction of the material in the heating cylinder. The recommended molding temp, is 170-190C. The curve relating the impact strength of polystyrene to the time of the material under pressure shows that with Increasing time (to a certain extent), the strength properties of the moldings are improved because of the resulting condensation of the material. However, In case of high-molecular-weight polystyrene, with Its ability to orient In the melt, a prolonged stay in the mold under pressure gives negative results be- cause of the increasing Internal stresses. For polystyrene UP-2, the fneltLng index ifi 1. 6 cwd 1/3 ACCESSION NR: AP4045019 times less than for the impact resistant polystyrene VP-11. For molding high-impact polystyrene, the material should be kept in the mold under pressure for 15-20 sec., in- cluding the time of introduction of the plunger. A molding temperature of 180C ensures -the -beat filling of the molds at all pressures. It is more suitable to increase the pre83ure than-the temperature. The specific impact strength of the products was determined at -40C. In all cases, the impact strength of polystyrene VP-P and UP-2 was 2-2.5 times an high at -40C as at +20C. This must be taken into account in molding. The effect of orientation on the flexural and impact strength was investigated on samples (10 x 15 mm) erial rut-parallel and perpendicular to thn flow direction of the mat 7`he strength pro- ..Perties were better when the strers was applied perpendicularly to the flow direction. 7he melecular orientation obtained by molding can be fixed only in products in which the load act6-in one direction. The greatest difference in strength was observed near the flow gate, where the material Is under the greatest pressure and whore the greatest orientation is I -defined (666d. 7be curves of specific Impact strength and static flexural stress have well minima arranged at different distances from the gate for different polystyrene samples. This distance depends on the flow of the material, which can be characterized by the _.~~Tnelting index.. 7he meldin index of the oopolMer SNP-2 at a maximum permissible mold temperaturd of 245C was 0. 56, 1, e. it was increased considerably, Orig. art. hast 7 C,,d 2/3 ACCESSION NR., AP4045019 ASSOCIATION: None SUBmrrTED: 00 NO REF SOV: 003 3/3 ENCU 00 OTHER. 002 Card SUB CODE; MT JQKTOROV, Ye.V., gvardit mayor Ophthalmologic section of the Odessa hospital. Only the confiquration of the water-vapor dimers is calculated in the I.Card 1/3 L6711-65 ACCESSION NR: AP4044095 present article. The water-vapor dimer model is considered in the framework of the theory of the hydrogen bond. The relative orienta- tion of the molecules and the potential barrier of internal rotation mole- is calculated on the basis of a point-like model of the water cule. The mueual orientation of the water molecules in the dimer is determined from the character of the forcas binding the molecule. It is shown that the model of the open structure of the dimer used in the article is more stable than other dimer structures (cyclic or bifurcational structure). The coordinates of all the charges of _~u4eP_-ara_det_Pxmined. and the potential barrier for inter- a a shown that the: expression for ith6--Thboraction- fitial- --using-thez-_- point model of the water molecule, can also be derived from a rigor- ous quantum-mechanical analysis of the problem. Although measurements of microwave absorption by oxygen are in good agreement with those predicted, the results of measurements of water vapor absorption are about two times greater than theoretical values.Sucha large discrepancy between measured and theoreti- cal data cannot be explained by the presence of vapor isotopes or by an improperly chosen line breadth constant. The authors show that anomalous absorption by water vapor can be expiained by the presence of dimer role- cules of water vapor. The authorn ocnaider this fact its a proof that thf. changes (l)-(3) in the infrared apentrp tire not cauatid by the dimer but by the Intermediates of the interaction of DPE with tits tin halides. Further spectral data out,7-9t that the dimer also forma complexes with SnCl 4 and C6J5 SnCl 3- .(C) The auth ore measured the dipole moment of DPE In benzene solution with excess SnCl V and obtained the value 1D. Thus, it lies by O.T-0.8 Dhigher than the dipole moment in benzene. For these reasons, the Card 3/5 2 L052 S/02 0/ 61/ 13 #3/00 4/01310 2 3 Complexes of diphenyl ethylene with tin,.. B105IB203 authors think that the band 400 mp (contrary to Ontementa made by A, G. Evans et al. (nee belcx)) cannot be explninod with onrbonilim inna. The absorption band in the region 610 mi, may be ascribed to the n-complex. Accorling to A. N. Terenin et al, (Ref. 10: Optika I spektroakopiya, 3, 450 (1957); Izv. All SSSR, OWI, 1950, 1!00), the frequency of the valenoy formation decreauen by 115-195 cm-1 in the armplex formation from -~yolo- hexane and SnCl ; besides, aboorption bi.ndtj appear in the reFion 1400-1340 and 1200 cm- 1 The band 1525 cm- I In 13yatema (d) an] (e) is ascribed to the reduced (by 140 cm 1) frequency of vibr, itions of the double bond in the a-complex of the dimer vith the tin hnlide3. In ccntrapt to systems (a) and (b), the authors had not found any indications of a formation of R-Complexee in system (o). The solutions of the latter in benzene are colorless, and no changes were obeerved in their Infrared spectrum as c7impared with 'he spectra of components. Thust the vithors proved that the above-mentioned order was also maintained In the case of complexes with monomers. They conclude that C 9 SnCl can also he a catalyst for:the 6 5 3 polymerization of ol*fina whereas thin cannot be expected for (C H 6 5)2SnC'?'
