"Dislocation Damping in Single Crystals of Molybdenum Irradiated by Ultrasound"
Kiev, Yetallof izika, No 39, 1972, pP 54-57
Abstract: Dislocation damping in ultrasonically irradiated single crystals of
molybdenum was investigated in relation to xtibration. amlitude, irradiation
time, and annealing temperature. High-power ultrasonic oscillations with a
frequency of 20 hz were used for irradiation. 1L.easurements were made by the
impulse method at a frequency of 10 Phz. It wmas shown that with increased
amplitude of oscillations the damping level increases but is substantially
hor, than after plastLe defonr;atioa, yielding a comparablo dinlocation density.
On the other hand, in the irradiation of plastically defor-med 3amples, dar-ping
is reditced. The increase in damping occum in two temperature interrals--75-
150 and 250-6000CY between which-a peak is situated with a maxiim.L-i at 2100C.
The obtained results are discussed in the limits of the theory Cranato and
Lucke. The conclusion is made.that ultrasonic irradiation-, along with increas-
ing dislocation density,, leads to blocking of later point defects more sub-
stantially than by plastic deform-ation. In this aspect, ultrasonic irradiation
is analogous to the action of nuclear irradiation oi, low-temperature annealing.

pyrolysis of the liquid medium,.which may be effected
by heating the working surface of the electrode to
700-10000C in an electric arc or furnace.and,,then
contacting it with the carbon-containing,liquid
medium. By this method,,the durability of.,an electrode
made e.g. of copper, is improved.and the;wearing of
graphitized electrodes is reduced over the whole
range of working conditions.,~The efficiency of the
electrode is high.
