Vietnam 2. Greece 50X1 50X1 In South Vietnam, the critical atti- tude of Buddhist leader Tri Quang toward the government appears to be hardening. While he does not appear to US Embassy observers to be committed to any particular course of action, he is saying that "sooner or later the government will have to go." There have been some defections from the Papandreou camp, but the chances are dim that the Athanasiadis-Novas govern- ment can long survive. Papandreou still commands broad sup- port and he clearly intends to make the future of the monarchy a leading element of new elections, should it come to that. The King, who has returned to Corfu for the week end, would probably prefer to let former deputy premier Stephanopolous try to form a government before calling for elections, which no one, except perhaps Papandreou, wants. Public gatherings have been banned in Athens, and two battalions of reinforce- ments have been sent in. The government's security arrangements may be severely tested tonight when leftwingers plan a big rally. 5 OX1 50X1 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2015/07/24 : CIA-RDP79T00936A003800300001-2 ' Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2015/07/24 : CIA-RDP79T00936A003800300001-2 50X1 3. USSR 4. USSR 5.. France 50X1 50X1 The 27,000-pound satellite?Proton-1-- launched yesterday may have been the first to use the large new booster we have seen in satellite photography. Proton-1 has been tracked back to the complex at Tyura- tam, where satellite photography has shown more than usual activity for the past few months. In May, a 205-foot gantry was in place at one of the launch pads at the com- plex. A large booster was being assembled at the gantry. The booster appeared to have a cluster of seven rockets. Early analysis of yester- day's big launch indicates that a clustered booster was used. Press services in Paris are disseminat- ing a report that a US aircraft was inter- cepted over the important gaseous diffusion plant at Pierrelatte by French fighters. A French inquiry has been opened into this "unprecedented" incident. 50X1 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2015/07/24 : CIA-RDP79T00936A003800300001-2 50X1 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2015/67/24 : CIA-RDP79T00936A003800300001-2 TOP SECRET TOP SECRET Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2015/07/24 : CIA-RDP79T00936A003800300001-2
