Our Foreign Language Incentive Program provides monetary bonuses to new and current employees with foreign language skills who meet proficiency requirements. This bonus is paid to new employees who meet the minimum proficiency requirements from a qualifying list of languages, work in a language-designated occupation and sign a continued service agreement with the CIA. New employees can qualify for this hiring bonus in more than one language.
This bonus is provided to new employees who possess excellent foreign language skills in a language on the Foreign Language Hiring Priority List and meet the requirements of the Language Proficiency Hiring Bonus. New employees may qualify for this hiring bonus in more than one language, with $5,000 awarded per language.
Note: The total compensation received for the Language Proficiency Hiring Bonus and Foreign Language Hiring Priority Bonus cannot exceed a combined $35,000.
This bonus is offered to individuals who receive a Conditional Offer of Employment for a language-designated occupation, test and meet proficiency requirements in a language on the Foreign Language Hiring Priority List during the hiring process, successfully Enter on Duty (EOD) with the CIA and sign a continued service agreement. New employees may qualify for this additional hiring bonus in more than one language. The bonus ranges from $75 to $250, accrued bi-weekly until EOD, not to exceed 25 percent of the employee’s salary.
This program is for Agency employees who possess and maintain language proficiency from a qualifying list of languages, regardless of their position. By sustaining qualifying proficiency levels, you can receive maintenance bonus pay in each biweekly paycheck – ranging from $75 to $250.
This program offers additional bonus compensation for employees who meet the Language Maintenance Program requirements and work in certain qualifying positions where it is necessary for you to regularly use your language skills. This biweekly bonus pay ranges from $75 to $400.
