Sidearm Knife and Sheath

Artifact Details

A flat, rounded knife with a wooden handle next to its leather sheath.

The OSS’ presence in the China-Burma-India Theater demonstrated how intelligence could shape American foreign policy.

OSS Officer Sam Backus carved his initials, S.D.B., into the leather sheath of this steel, doubled-edged knife with grooved leather handle. Backus served in the China-Burma-India Theater during the war.
