President Trump today announced his intent to appoint Vaughn F. Bishop to serve as Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Mr. Bishop previously worked at CIA for 30 years and will bring deep analytic expertise, complementing Director Haspel’s operational experience. Before retiring from CIA in 2011, Mr. Bishop served in a variety of senior positions, including as Vice Chair of the National Intelligence Council. Even after retirement, Mr. Bishop contributed to the Agency’s mission as the CIA Ombudsman for Analytic Objectivity during the Agency’s modernization effort.

“Vaughn is a superb choice. I cannot express how pleased I am that he has agreed to return to CIA. He will help empower every Agency officer to advance CIA’s mission in concrete and measurable ways,” Director Haspel said in a note to CIA’s workforce.

“I am honored to come home to the CIA to serve with Director Haspel on the leadership team. As a career officer, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. I have tremendous respect for the men and women of the Agency, and I look forward to serving alongside them in pursuit of CIA’s vital mission,” Mr. Bishop said.

Mr. Bishop joined the CIA in 1981 and developed a reputation as an exceptional analyst, a straight shooter, and an inspiring mentor. He holds three degrees from Northwestern University: Bachelor in Political Science, Master in Political Science, and Doctorate in Political Science and African Studies.
