Photos of Nigeria

The Sacred Grove of Osun-Osogbo, located outside the city of Osogbo in Nigeria’s Osun State, is over 400 years old and the largest of the remaining ritual groves that used to be on the outskirts of all Yoruba cities. The Yoruba, one of the largest ethnic groups in West Africa, regard the grove as the spiritual home of Osun, the goddess of fertility. Still an active religious site, its 75 hectares (185 acres) contain shrines, sculptures, and art works, and it became a UNESCO site in 2005.
