The Founding Fathers risked their lives and the fate of the thirteen original colonies to ensure all Americans could enjoy "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." While CIA was founded in 1947, its lineage can be traced back to the earliest days of the Revolution. This heritage is visible across the Agency — from the statue of Nathan Hale to the Benjamin Tallmadge Institute for Counterintelligence, these Revolutionary spymasters serve as a constant reminder of the service required to keep our Nation free and safe.

CIA officers take tremendous risk to protect the freedom of our fellow Americans. We carry out this mission loyally and relentlessly, often without public recognition. In many ways, this is the highest form of national service and honors our Founders and legacy.
